This makes a lot of sense to me, Ambrosia.

I agree completely with everything you've said.

You have to face it if you have more desire than talent and gifts. I imagine myself accomplishing various feats and then don't follow through to completion.  If I did, that doesn't mean it would be a huge success, in reality. Just imagining the utmost is fun, though. "Creative visualization" --is that just another term for imagination? The visualization techniques such as "you create your own reality" never seemed to really work for me. I don't believe in being consumed by ambition. So I just feel a twinge of it, now and then.

Yeah, Susy. I would love to be more creative. There is some creativity inside of me, but it cannot get out. The environment I live in is not very helpful either - it seems to be an eternal fight. There always seem to be other priorities.
Anyway, please do not forget that people who have to be creative one way or another also have to be able to cope with loads of criticism. That can be hard. How much can one take? One of my friends is an interior designer - Her "creations" are always a race against time. The same applies to "web designers", people with advertising jobs,...
Lots of people with a "creative job" drop out. Suffer from burnout.
Often it looks like they only hear an endless parade of people telling them how worthless their work is. The pressure to produce is killing them.
Do you know the book "Ths Shadow of the Wind"  by Carlos Ruiz Zaf√≥n? If I am not mistaken I believe I read somewhere he was active in the advertising industry before he started to write. By the age of thirty he had to stop. He was totally empty. (it could be another writer).
So when people talk about being creative I feel they mostly refer to being creative the nice way, when they feel like it, when the sun shines and all goes well. Very often it does not work that way.
